Donor Sperm
Sperm from a screened third-party donor used when a partner's sperm is unavailable or unsuitable.
Donor sperm is used by single women, same-sex female couples, or couples where male factor infertility is severe or carries a hereditary condition. Sperm banks screen donors thoroughly for infectious diseases, genetic disorders, and family health history, and quarantine samples for at least six months for retesting.
Donor sperm can be used with ICI (intracervical insemination), IUI, or IVF/ICSI depending on the female partner's fertility status. Recipients choose donors based on physical characteristics, education, health history, and sometimes audio or essay profiles. Open-ID donors agree to be contacted by donor-conceived offspring at age 18.
