FET (Frozen Embryo Transfer)

An IVF procedure in which a previously frozen embryo is warmed and transferred to the uterus.

In a FET cycle, vitrified (snap-frozen) embryos are thawed and transferred to the uterus without a new egg retrieval. The endometrium is prepared either in a natural cycle (relying on the woman's own ovulation) or an artificial (medicated) cycle using estrogen pills or patches followed by progesterone suppositories or injections.

FET success rates now match or exceed fresh transfers in most populations because the uterine lining is not exposed to high stimulation-hormone levels at the time of transfer. FET also allows time for PGT-A results, ERA testing, and recovery between procedures. Vitrified embryos have been stored for over a decade with no documented decline in success rates.
