Natural Killer (NK) Cells

Immune cells in the uterine lining thought to play a role in implantation and recurrent miscarriage.

Uterine natural killer (uNK) cells are a specialized type of immune cell that helps regulate blood flow to the developing embryo during implantation. They differ from circulating NK cells and are considered beneficial at normal levels.

Elevated peripheral or uterine NK cell activity has been associated with recurrent implantation failure and pregnancy loss in some studies, though the evidence remains debated.

Testing and treatment (such as intralipid infusions or steroids) are offered at some clinics, but are not yet standard of care per ASRM guidelines.
