Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE)

A board-certified OB/GYN subspecialist trained in diagnosing and treating infertility and hormonal disorders.

A reproductive endocrinologist completes 4 years of OB/GYN residency followed by a 3-year fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI), then passes board examinations from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. REs diagnose and treat conditions such as infertility, PCOS, endometriosis, recurrent pregnancy loss, premature ovarian insufficiency, and uterine anomalies.

They perform procedures including IUI, IVF, egg retrieval, embryo transfer, hysteroscopy, and laparoscopy. They also manage hormone therapy and coordinate third-party reproduction (donor egg, donor sperm, surrogacy).

Patients are typically referred to an RE after 12 months of trying without success (or 6 months if over 35), or sooner if a known condition exists.
