AMH (Anti-Müllerian Hormone)

A hormone produced by ovarian follicles that reflects a woman's remaining egg supply.

AMH is secreted by small follicles in the ovaries and is one of the most reliable markers of ovarian reserve — the total number of eggs a woman has left. Unlike FSH, AMH levels stay relatively stable throughout the menstrual cycle, so blood can be drawn on any day.

Low AMH suggests diminished ovarian reserve and may mean fewer eggs retrieved during IVF. High AMH can indicate polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and a risk of ovarian hyperstimulation. Most labs flag 1.0–3.5 ng/mL as a normal reproductive-age range, though interpretation always depends on age and clinical context.
